The big day had finally arrived. The moment of truth! The video clip for DRIVE ON would finally be unveiled for its world premiere!!
Tim Cairns and the Lazy Straights started off the night with a great set of melodic country rock. Tim’s voice only improves with age and his ease with an audience was evident from the first song to the last.
A packed house then saw Brook and the boys take the stage around 10pm. The first set contained many songs from their debut album and finished with Elise Beattie joining Brook on stage for an epic debut performance of ‘Always You.’ Penny Somerville also accompanied the band wonderfully on her devilish fiddle for much of the night!
It was finally time for the DRIVE ON video to be unmasked. The lights dimmed further and the big screen showed it off beautifully. The decibels pumped through the PA system pleasing everyone in attendance with the gathered crowd cheering loudly in appreciation! With 1,000 YouTube views in the first 2 weeks, this number can only grow as word gets around.
It was then time for Brook to quieten things down for a short acoustic set. With the trusty Guild guitar accompanying him and Anthony providing some tasty harmonies, Brook first performed the great Jamey Johnson song ‘In Color’ and then 2 brand new, as yet unrecorded, Brook Chivell Band songs titled ‘Our Song’ and finally the song dedicated to Anthony’s late father, titled ‘The Man I Want To Be.’ It is fair to say there were more than a few moist eyes in the room at that point…
The rest of the band then rejoined Brook and Anthony on stage for the final rocking set of the night. Ray (drums), Dan (bass) and Paul (lead guitar) were introduced by Brook and the final set had highlights such as an extended version of Drive On, Thank You and a kick arse version of Thrills n Spills to finish off on a true high!
Thanks to all who attended the night and sent Brook off for his month long Nashville visit on a high – that will be a whole other article – stay tuned!!
